Murder of God’s Banker

A PARAMOUNT+ ORIGINAL

In 1982, Roberto Calvi, a fugitive financier known as “God’s Banker,” was found hanging from London’s Blackfriars Bridge.

What starts as an investigation surrounding one man’s death, quickly expands into a story of international intrigue, involving the Sicilian Mafia, the Vatican and illegal Fascist groups in Italy that eventually bring down the government.

The documentary uses archival footage, animation, stylized dramatizations and interviews with notable journalists and historians to uncover the truth behind Calvi’s murder while delving into the layers of corruption at the root of global money and power.

Interviews include Gerald Posner, Angela Gallop, Philip Willan, John Dickie, Larry Gurwin, and Leo Sisti.

Reviews & Press

Riveting!

Murder Of God’s Banker doesn’t disappoint. The docuseries exposes secret connections between some of the world’s most unlikely allies.

The four part documentary delves into the layers of corruption at the root of global money and power and is complex and geopolitical — the perfect platform for a docu-series.

Crimes, corruption, bribery, Freemasonry, and the church. This show has it all.

Rich in archival material interspersed with noir animations….this documentary by Donahue starts from a single event to tell a broader story.

Animated tales make room for murders and power games, generating in the viewer a greater sense of discomfort and disorientation.
